September 26, 2011 From the Mayor's Office Fall
is in the air -- This is my most favorite time of the year!
The
temperatures are cooling off a bit and we're finally receiving a little
rain.
September has really been quite a busy month for Semmes!
The City is progressing along at a fast pace.
Starting a The City Council and I have covered many business items over the course of the last month. The most important item is the City Budget for 2011-2012. Our fiscal year begins October 1, 2011. I presented the proposed budget to the City Council who unanimously approved and adopted it during the Sept 15th Council meeting. Of importance is the creation of the “Budget Stabilization Fund” of which we will deposit 20% of our sales tax revenue. This will function as our rainy day account. During
the month of October, you’ll begin to see some new signage that will
mark the boundaries of our city limits.
These signs are the result of a project out of our Public
Works Committee. We’d
also like to begin work on the installation of police jurisdiction signs
as well. Beginning in October -- OPEN DOOR Fridays! Communication is key – and I'd like to meet and talk with you about topics that you feel are important in our community. Drop by City Hall between 9 AM and 2 PM, let's have a cup of coffee and discuss what's on your mind. If you'd like to meet at a specific time on a Friday, call 649-8811 to schedule. While we're on the subject of communication, I am very happy to share the City cell phone numbers for all of our Council. These five officials have been elected "at-large" to serve our community – meaning that you can contact any or all of them. Please feel free to contact them (or myself) with your concerns, ideas and suggestions via cell phone or email:
Stay
in touch by checking our City's website:
www.cityofsemmes.org.
You'll find the latest information on City business as well as when and
where public meetings are scheduled.
If you would like to correspond with me via email - my address is
mayor@cityofsemmes.org.
I'd love to hear from you.
There are so many great things happening in Semmes!
Before I close, I would like to thank the Semmes
Woman’s Club
for hosting the reception that followed the City Council meeting on Sept
15, in which the Council honored Mr. George Romano for his years of
service at Judith Hale, Mayor
